While attending university in Hawaii, I continued my training under Jiu Jitsu standout Mike Fowler at North Shore BJJ. Later, I had the opportunity to study abroad at Tamkang University in Taipei, where I joined the Judo and boxing teams. During this time, I competed in several Jiu Jitsu events and MMA bouts, further deepening my love for martial arts.

Throughout my 20s, I traveled, trained, and competed around the world, visiting hundreds of teams and experiencing the rapid growth of the sport firsthand.

In 2019, I earned my Jiu Jitsu black belt from Juan Tatum at Peak Performance before joining Rafael “Formiga” Barbosa at Double Five in 2020. Under Formiga’s guidance, I continued to refine my skills, winning dozens of titles and achieving a top 10 IBJJF ranking. In 2022, I earned my first-degree black belt from Formiga.

Wanting to give back to the sport and help build the next generation of athletes, I partnered with Formiga and the Collins brothers to expand Double Five. In 2023, we established Double Five Mid Cities to further that vision and grow the team.

My training philosophy has been shaped by the exposure to many accomplished practitioners over the years. I believe that every student has a unique “game” to be discovered, influenced by their physical traits, personality, and personal affinity for certain techniques. My goal as a coach is to educate and teach effective Jiu Jitsu while allowing students the freedom to evolve, develop their own style, and express their creativity on the mats.
